MAUMEE, OHIO – Builders, remodelers and homeowners looking for a unique way to accent a single or double garage door now have a decorative low-maintenance option with the Fypon® PVC Trellis Systems. Available in two sizes to accommodate either single- or double-car garages, each trellis system kit can also be fabricated to use in alternative settings, such as over home entryways, garden sheds and free-standing garages.

Can You Profile and Shape PVC?
0While taking calls on a recent radio show, I was asked a question regarding using a router on PVC boards. Absolutely you can. In fact, one of the advantages of using Fypon I have not talked about on here, is that when profiling and shaping PVC, the issue of grain is irrelevant. Fypon has ProPaks available of various board sizes and you can create your custom profiles without worrying about moisture damage and other shortcomings of wood products. So go ahead and give it a spin.
PVC Trim is Better
2PVC Trim Profiles from Fypon are superior to wood mouldings in many ways,” says Crystal Rodriguez with Fypon. “These products may be placed directly against masonry without fear of decay or water absorption. They have no above-grade distance requirement and they will never rot. PVC Trim Profiles are impact- and moisture-resistant and do not have the potential to absorb water, making them an ideal long-term product for the interior or exterior of any project.”
Fypon PVC Trim Profiles are available in a variety of sizes and styles in long, 16-foot lengths. The density and cell structure of the PVC allows the product to cut smoothly without chipping, making it the perfect material for routing and milling.
Fypon also offers a variety of PVC sheets, boards, bead board and corners with both smooth and woodgrain finishes for additional construction needs. All Fypon PVC products are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Stock Mouldings Stack Up for Three Sisters
0To achieve the ambitious moulding restoration project of the exterior of a set of 1897 buildings in historic New Haven, Connecticut, the team at Kenneth Boroson Architects turned to Fypon products.
“Originally we turned to Fypon and asked them to create a custom mold so that we could replicate the decaying tin moulding on the structure,” says Ken Boroson, AIA, of Kenneth Boroson Architects in New Haven, Connecticut. “Their experts suggested a more cost-efficient solution of using existing stock mouldings to create the top moulding piece and the column mouldings. This saved us significant funds and worked out perfectly. You can’t tell the difference between the finished product and the original piece.”
Assembled from nine different urethane decorative moldings and flat trim profiles, the six-foot tall cornice moulding creation sits at the top of two three-story brick buildings. Five additional pieces of fascia, cornice and crown mouldings were combined to create the column piece moulding accents for the buildings.
Large swag bow and ribbon accent pieces finish off the top moulding of two of the three side-by-side brick buildings on Congress Street. Additional mouldings were used to create the three-foot tall column pieces on the buildings. The three structures have been fully restored and contain a dozen renovated condos that were opened to the public in November of 2008.
Combining Urethane and PVC – The Best of Both Worlds
3
Want the best of both worlds? Use Fypon PVC and urethane on the interior and exterior of the home. That’s the recommendations from building industry experts.
Made to resist rot, decay, moisture and insects, these products are ideal for entryway trim, column surrounds, louvers and porch systems. Urethane products are primarily molded decorative pieces while PVC products are sold in sheets and boards. The PVC pieces can be fabricated into everything from soffitry to porch ceilings.
In Florida, contractor Rob Barnes made a decision to incorporate both urethane and cellular PVC products on his new home. Barnes used PVC boards as the corners, window trim and frieze of the home and wrapped beams and columns with PVC sheets. Beaded boards of PVC were used for porch ceilings in both the front and back of the house while urethane window crossheads, louvers, trim and pilasters were installed to add style to the house.
“Using Fypon urethane and PVC products together on an exterior is a perfect marriage for a building professional or homeowner,” says Barnes. “Both products stand up to all types of weather, insects, rot and decay. Fabricating the PVC was simple. I found the consistency was terrific and easy to cut and shape. Wrapping the exterior columns with the PVC sheets was just as easy as installing the urethane window crossheads.”
