Create Custom Baseboards from PVC
Bathrooms, porches and patio areas that are prone to wet conditions can pose problems for wooden base moulding. As the wood contacts water, it can swell, cause paint to peel, deform or even rot. PVC, on the other hand, has none of those problems when exposed to water, which makes it an excellent material for base moulding in moisture-prone living areas. Fypon offers 3/4″ PVC stock that can easily be shaped with a router to any profile your desire. The Extreme How-To staff recently shaped some Fypon PVC stock on a router table using a router bit specifically designed to create the contours and beading of typical base moulding. The result was a decorative baseboard that withstands water with no problem. Since the material is solid white throughout, it can be immediately installed, or use primer and paint to change its color to suit your needs.
